Wednesday Oct 27, 2010 - Day 10

Monopoly anyone?

Photobucket

For homework, Jimmy asked us to round up boardgames from home or to go out and buy some, if we didn't have any, so that we could bring them in to class today for a "Game Day." Sounds like a fun time right? It was, however we weren't completely free to lose ourselves in the gameplay. We still had things to consider.

As we played, Jimmy wanted us to keep a few things in mind:

  • Story
  • Characters
  • Themes
  • Icons
  • Conflict
  • Risk-reward
  • Symbolism
  • How do you win?
  • Strategies

I believe Jimmy was trying to get us thinking about the different aspects and concepts behind games in order to prepare us for our next assignment. For homework, we have to sketch 10 original ideas for board games. Sounds easy? Not quite, since it will prove to be quite a challenge to draw it in a way that will allow the audience to understand the concept of our game right away without a written explanation.

We'll see...
